Presented by: MountainBank and the I. J. Foodservice Company July 25 – August 2
Works of art by area campers in ceramic, steel, weaving, clay, wood burning, candle and paper making, photography, and painting and drawing, will be on display at the Arts Center from July 25 through August 2. The public is invited to an opening reception on July 25 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Some thoughts regarding Camping, the Arts, and our Community: It is reassuring that summer camps continue to emphasize artistic and dramatic expression as part of a complete summer camp experience, particularly in light of the dramatic cutbacks in music and art education programming in the nation’s schools. In a recent interview with National Public Radio, Dana Gioia, the newly- appointed head of the National Endowment of the Arts, stated, “Parents want art in their children’s lives. It should be a part of the inclusive vision for children’s foundation of learning.” It is no surprise that the camping industry, whose principle focus is on the development of the complete child through active experiences, incorporates this very idea into their programming. The exhibit, “Art Matters: The Creative Side Of The Summer Camp
Experience,” will be a celebration of the partnership of children’s
art through camping, the Arts Center of Henderson County, and the community
businesses that support this unique event.
